Exakt® Histological System for Specialized Tissue-Implant Processing
This unique equipment allows hard implants to be processed while maintaining intimate contact with surrounding tissue and permits the routine high quality processing of soft implants in hard tissue without decalcification.
  • Bone Cements
  • Demineralized Bone
  • Bone Plates
  • Total Hip Prosthesis
  • Artificial Cartilage
  • Bone/spine Fusion Polymers
  • Metallic Stents
  • Ophthalmic Implants
The Exakt® Process
Initially the specimen is cut with a diamond blade saw followed by infiltration with a polymer. After multiple steps a 5 to 25mm section is produced and prepared for histologic evaluation using routine stains, special stains or immunohistochemistry stains. The pathologist is able to evaluate in detail the interface between the device and the cellular layer of the implant. Remarkable photographs can be provided that are suitable for regulatory purposes and for publishing.

Exakt is a registered trademark of Exakt Precision Tools Limited, Aberdeen, Scotland.

4-month study interval - Modified Pargon staining. The EXAKT system was used to evaluate the integration of an hydroxyapatite coated implant.

6-week study interval - Toluidin blue staining. The EXAKT system is useful to evaluate the pseudo-intimal ingrowth and artery restenosis.

3-month study interval - Modified Paragon staining. A representative longitudinal section was obtained with the EXAKT system.
